Coming Soon: Old Time Radio Edition – Classic Shows

This Old Time Radio Word Search is a tribute to the classic broadcasts that defined a generation: Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Our Miss Brooks, Fibber McGee and Molly, My Friend Irma, Abbott & Costello, Eddie Cantor, and dozens more.

There were many actors and actresses who formed a sort of informal repertory company and appeared in many of the broadcasts every week. This book features puzzles and trivia devoted to actors like William Conrad, John Dehner, Bea Benaderet, and Mel Blanc.

Radio introduced the soap operas, so-named because of the products sold and because of their high drama. They were geared towards women, selling products of use to women and featuring stories of interest to women. We have several puzzles devoted to the original ‘soaps’ and their radio era.

Many of the original shows were theater and playhouse shows – Lux Radio Theater, Mercury Theater, Knickerbocker Playhouse, etc. Many actors found regular work on those theater production shows.

And then there were the music variety shows – the Grand Ole Opry, the National Barn Dance, and Louisiana Hayride, as well as the jazz bands and their charismatic leaders such as Paul Whiteman, Rudy Vallee, Buddy Rogers, and Fred Waring. Many artists got their start on these music programs and audiences around the world discovered many new types of music to enjoy.

Every puzzle page is packed with show titles, stars, catchphrases, sponsors, and the little details only true listeners remember. The book also features vintage advertising and artwork and photos from out-of-print magazines that add interest and life to the names and faces of yesteryear.

No streaming. No commercials. Just a pencil, a quiet evening, and the crackle of memory.

Settle in. The program is about to begin.
